EBG (now Miba Resistors), founded in 1977 in Kirchbach, Austria, has been a leading specialist in high voltage thick film resistors. For nearly half a century, EBG has built a solid market position in global high voltage applications including medical X-ray, dental CBCT, and industrial NDT through its RuO2 thick film technology and precise TCR control. After being acquired by Miba Group in 2010, the brand was formally unified to Miba Resistors in 2024.
However, in recent years, with significant changes in the global semiconductor and passive component supply chain landscape, EBG/Miba customers are facing increasing supply pressure. Four pain points stand out, driving more engineers and procurement teams to actively seek proven second sources:
Against this industry backdrop, HVC Capacitor launched its HV thick film resistor business in 2017, adopting a process route closely aligned with EBG — same 96% Al2O3 ceramic substrate, RuO2 ruthenium-based resistor paste, and ~850°C firing window for non-inductive thick film technology. HVC's engineering team includes former EBG employees, ensuring process alignment at the technical source. To date, HVC has been qualified for volume production by multiple international manufacturers including Planmeca Oy (Finland), Haining Jingyi Electronics (affiliated with iRay Technology), Spellman, and Hitek Power.
EBG's flat-format family (Flat Chip / Flat Resistor) consists of chip and flat-package parts designed for tight layouts inside HV power supplies. Three product lines cover the spectrum: FBX/FEP/FSX for standard precision and medium-to-high voltage ranges; FPX/FLX for higher power handling; and the MTX 967 series for ultra-low-TCR precision measurement applications.
