Q1: Can HVC directly replace SAMWHA ECN series N4700 capacitors in-situ?

A: Yes. But note this is not just a 1:1 swap — it’s a technology upgrade. SAMWHA’s N4700 (ECN series) has DF=1.0%, actually doped Class 2 ceramic masquerading as N4700. HVC’s DL series uses genuine N4700 paraelectric ceramic with DF ≤ 0.2%. Regarding physical dimensions, HVC equivalents are typically smaller or equal in size. The only exception is 10kV/680pF N4700 (ECN4A681K13DS1, 13.5mm dia), where HVC replacement is HVC-10KV-DL15-F10-681K (15mm dia) — about 1.5mm larger but still within acceptable range.

Q2: How should SAMWHA Y5R (EKR series) be replaced?

A: Y5R is a Class 2 material between Y5P and Y5U. HVC uniformly upgrades it to genuine N4700 (DL series). This is a significant material upgrade, not a downgrade. For example, 10kV/1000pF Y5R (EKR4A102K17DS1, 17.5mm dia) is replaced by HVC-10KV-DL16-F10-102K (16mm dia) — actually smaller.
